The automotive air intake system and exhaust system are integral components responsible for ensuring optimal engine performance.
While the intake system supplies the engine with fresh air or a combustible mixture, the exhaust system expels the combustion byproducts.

The structure of the intake and exhaust systems is intricate, with various components contributing to their operation. In manifold-injected engines, the intake process begins with air entering the air filter assembly, where it undergoes filtration to remove impurities.
This clean air then proceeds through the throttle into the intake manifold, where it mixes with atomized fuel injected by the injectors to form a combustible mixture. Finally, the combustible mixture enters the cylinder through the intake valve, essential for the combustion process.
The principle behind the automotive air intake system revolves around filtering air to eliminate impurities before it reaches the engine. After passing through the air filter, the air flows through the airflow meter into the intake tract and then into the intake manifold.
Within the intake manifold, the air mixes with gasoline injected from the injectors, forming a properly proportioned fuel-air mixture. This mixture is then directed by the intake valves into the cylinders, where it undergoes ignition and combustion to generate power. One exemplary engine that utilizes an innovative exhaust gas turbocharging system is the BMW N55 engine. In this system, the turbine of the turbocharger rotates under the drive of the engine's exhaust gas.
Subsequently, the turbine drives the coaxially connected compressor impeller, which draws in filtered air and compresses it. The compressed air is then cooled down by the pressurized air cooler before entering the engine cylinders, contributing to enhanced engine performance.

Engine and Cylinder Head Removal: For a comprehensive and direct cleaning approach, the engine and cylinder head can be removed for cleaning. Although this method yields the best cleaning results, it is complex and necessitates specialized personnel for operation.
