Suárez has been the world's No. 1 center forward since joining Barcelona in '14, while Benzema, despite his less impressive stats, has his unique characteristics.
So who is better, Suárez or Benzema, both born in '87? Let's take a look at the numbers and draw a conclusion.
1. Goal-scoring
For strikers, scoring goals is always the most direct and simple weapon, so how have the two scored in the past 10 seasons?
Considering the volatility of the cup competitions, We will only take the data of the two in the league here.
From 10-11 to date (Suárez includes data from the Ajax and Liverpool periods).
Benzema led the way in goals scored in the first two seasons and this one, but Suárez has outscored Benzema in all six seasons in between.
In 15-16, Benzema scored 24 league goals but was dwarfed by Suárez's 40.
2. Shooting Efficiency
Benzema takes a relatively long time to score a goal, with seven seasons of over 140 minutes/goal.
Suárez, on the other hand, was less efficient in his first two seasons but has remained consistent since the start of the 12-13 season so far.
He's taken no more than 140 minutes per goal, staying under 100 minutes/goal for three seasons.
However, both reached their peaks in the 15-16 season, and the time needed to score goals is relatively close.
3. Assists and goal-making efficiency
Both as top centers, their role is more than just scoring goals, assists are also an important reflection of their ability.
So far in the 10-11 season, Suárez has 91 assists in the league compared to Benzema's 76, with Suárez having a small lead.
In the Champions League, however, Benzema has 21 assists to Suárez's 20, but Benzema has made 40 more appearances, giving Suárez the edge in terms of efficiency.
As you can see from the data above, Benzema is the underdog when comparing the various stats, except for the number of Champions League goals and efficiency, which suggests that Suárez is a better player than him.
Multiple dimensions show that Suárez is indeed better than Benzema in both goals and assists.
But is Benzema not good enough? Not really, the stats can prove that he's just as much of a top attacker, just not as amazing as Suárez.
What's even more admirable is that he's been able to play for a club like Real Madrid for more than a decade, something that even Cristiano Ronaldo hasn't achieved.
